Rate & Room Booked: Queen Room £70 B&B | Stayed As: HHonors Silver
The hotels is a relatively new purpose built building.
The hotel is located in the heart of Aberdeen’s City Centre.
Checkin went smoothly (outside of the parking fiasco, see below). Staff were helpful and efficient.
The lobby is tiny, but nicely finished.
Room was nice enough, almost exactly like the photos above. LOVE the rain shower, although it is hard not to flood the place with it!
We were on floor 2 which gives you zero views (unless you like looking into flats). The higher floors might get you something of a view though.
Bathroom was modern and clean. There was only a shower, but it was a large double one.
The shower screen isn’t brilliantly designed, which makes it very easy to flood the place. It can also get very slippy, so watch yourself! It was clear other guests had the same issue with flooding, as the door frame next to the shower looked like it had some water damage.
Breakfast was nice and was on till 11am at the weekend. Good spread. Waffles were absent even after the front desk manager insisting we try them on our welcome letter You have to get your own tea/coffee which is always a bit of a faff. The buffet area is also extremely small and awkward, particularly when a few people are at it.
Bars & Restaurants
We didn’t try the restaurant (by Nick Nairne).
We did have a few cocktails in the bar though which were lovely. £6.95 for a Margarita which isn’t too bad. They didn’t seem to be doing table service which I thought was a little odd.
Parking is a faff. They only have around 20 spaces under the hotel. When we arrived, these were all full, so we had to park in the nearby Bon Accord shopping centre car park. 5 minute walk max from the hotel though, but it’s just a pain.
The hotel have a deal with them so it is the same price as parking in the hotel’s own car park.
Update to add: If you are leaving the hotel after 11am you will need to pay an additional top up fee at the Bon Accord car park machine before leaving, despite already having paid your £8 at the hotel. The hotels credit only covers from 4pm till 11am. Hotel staff didn’t make me aware of this on checking out at 12.30 (late checkout) so when drove to the barriers and put the token in, it said no. I had to reserve out and go find a machine to pay an additional £2.50, all very stressful and embarrassing so hopefully I save someone from having the same experience.
Silver HHonors benefits included a free newspaper & a (one only) free bottle of water which bizarrely you had to collect from the pantry next to reception and hand over a paper voucher to reception. Welcome letter was also given at checkin.
I asked in the comments at the time of booking if we could have a King bed rather than the queen bed we booked if available, they obliged and did put us in a king which was nice of them.
As with most Hilton Garden Inn locations, there isn’t an Executive Lounge at this property.
Checkout is early at 11am. Asked for late checkout and was given 1PM which was good of them.
