Hilton Malta Review

Hilton LogoRoom Booked: King Deluxe Room with Marina View (upgraded to King Executive Room with Sea View then Marina Terrace Spa Room)
Stayed As: Honors Diamond | Stayed In: February 2026

Hilton Malta Outdoor PoolOn our first visit Malta we chose to stay at Hilton Malta where we had largely a very nice stay. Malta as a destination is such an interesting, vibrant place to visit and I can’t recommend it highly enough!

Hilton Malta is located in the upmarket Portomaso district of St. Julian’s, around 25 minutes by car from Valetta and around 15 minutes drive from Malta’s airport (MLA). To get to Valetta from the Hilton you can take a scenic walk along the coast to catch the Sliema Ferry over to Valetta (note the ferry only takes cash), or you can grab one of the readily available Ubers or Bolts.

Hilton Malta Marina Terrace Spa Room

Hilton Malta’s Marina Terrace Spa rooms are amazing and worth the additional nightly cost if your budget allows. These rooms located on the Portomaso Marina facing side of the hotel private terrace with hot tub looking over to the Portomaso marina as well as sun loungers. A very nice, relaxed setting and the hot tub at 40C was lovely on the slightly chilly Malta February evenings.

Hilton Malta King Executive Room with Sea View

I was less taken with their King Executive Room with Sea View which I was “upgraded” as a Honors Diamond member. We were allocated room 1053, which I wouldn’t recommend. The view isn’t quite the open vista they have advertised on the website. The balcony was tiny, unprotected, didn’t have a light and got virtually no sun as it’s in the corner of where 2 building meet. The decor was… sparse. The only notable or vaguely luxurious thing about the room was the oversized bathroom with double sinks and nice wooden shutters into the room. Not all of the King Executive Room with Sea View’s will be like this, there are defiantly better appointed ones.

Hilton Malta Pools & Spa

Outdoor pools look lovely, but unsurprisingly are a tad chilly in Febuary. There is 1 spa to the side of the pool which I’d describe as warm rather than hot but it was open. I was really impressed with the indoor pool and spa facilities with sauna, steam room, cold plunge and a heated pool with spa jets in one corner. I would recommend visiting the pool & spa in the evening if you can as it’s adults only and a bit less busy and chaotic than during the day.

Hilton Malta Executive Lounge

The executive lounge is in a good spot, with fab views out to sea with stylish decor inside and a terrace looking onto the pool. There was a decent enough spread in the evening of hot and cold nibbles. Drinks selection the usual spirits/wines/beers you see in most European Hilton Executive Lounges, if slightly on the cheaper end on the spirits. The lounge staff at the end of the service were near militant in removing the drinks seconds before the clock strikes 7pm even when multiple people were still mid pouring which was a bit much.

Hilton Malta Breakfast

Breakfast wise we largely ate in the executive lounge. The selection was ok, though I didn’t touch much of the hot food as it didn’t look great outside of the pastizzi which were pretty decent and worth a try! Nice to sit out on the terrace with a coffee to start the day.

It’s a shame they add an up charge for Diamonds to eat breakfast in the restaurant, I’ve yet to encounter this at any Hilton anywhere else in Europe or Asia and having eaten in the restaurant the selection was good but nothing exceptional for a Hilton of this size in Europe.

Blue Elephant Thai Malta

We tried out Blue Elephant Thai restaurant which is on the Portomaso marina side of the hotel on the bottom floor. It’s nicely themed, and I had high hopes as they only have 5 branches, 3 in Thailand, 1 in Copenhagen and the 1 in Hilton Malta. In the end, the food was all fine, and I couldn’t complain about any single dish but if you’ve had really good authentic Thai food this will all feel a bit “meh”. The service was also a bit rushed.

Quarterdeck Bar

Quarterdeck Bar is worth popping into for a night cap, they have a wrap around terrace with heaters looking onto the marina. Nice chilled vibe. Really liked their “cancer” cocktail so name after the star sign.
